Small Changes, Big Impacts

by Mint

Although my career has primarily been in the food and pharmaceutical industries, I have always been deeply concerned about environmental issues. My decision to join Econok was driven by a desire to make a tangible impact on energy conservation. My previous experiences highlighted the effects of energy use and further motivated me to find ways to reduce it. Joining this organization has given me valuable insights into how shifting perspectives on energy strategy can significantly benefit our society. This experience has reinforced my belief that small actions, such as adjusting room temperatures or implementing energy-saving measures in the workplace, are essential climate actions.

In Thailand, most of our electricity is generated by burning coal and gas, which releases carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Consequently, every time we use an electrical device, we contribute, albeit minimally, to global warming. Unfortunately, many Thais are unaware of this connection and don’t associate electricity consumption with global warming.

Reducing electricity consumption doesn’t have to mean compromising comfort. Simple actions, like unplugging devices when they’re not in use, can make a significant difference. Through our "Stay Cool, Save Energy" campaign, we encourage setting air conditioning temperatures between 25-28°C to achieve substantial energy savings. These small, consistent changes can collectively have a profound positive impact on the environment.

Environmental sustainability isn’t just the responsibility of individuals—businesses can adopt energy-efficient practices without new technologies, and governments can implement policies that pave the way for a sustainable future. For instance, the policy announced by the Thai Prime Minister on September 11, 2023, focused on restructuring the country's energy use, promoting clean and renewable energy, and aligning economic growth with environmental sustainability. Such policies must be maintained, regardless of political circumstances.

I’m glad to be a member of Econok because of its proactive stance on sustainability and its practical approaches to energy conservation. In my role at Econok, I aim to leverage my expertise in energy management and my experience from previous roles to fulfill our mission. I’m excited to collaborate with a dedicated team to produce impactful solutions and advance sustainable initiatives. My goal is to elevate environmental awareness in our community and help establish Econok as a sustainability leader in Bangkok.
